What is the difference between reserved seats and non-reserved seats?

■Reserved seats:
Reserved seats are seats where you designate a seat number and book your seat in advance. You may book a reserved seat as early as 10 AM (JST), 1 month in advance of the boarding date. For example, if your train boarding date is April 1, you can book and purchase tickets as early as March 1 at 10 AM.
■Non-reserved seat:
These are seats inside a non-reserved car that you choose and sit in after boarding without specifying a seat number in advance. Please note that there are cases where you may not be able to sit down in a seat due to crowding on the day of your trip. -

From what age to what age are child fares applied?

The child's fare applies to passengers aged 6 to 11. A fare for toddlers five years or younger is free.
Note, however, that a ticket for a child is required in the following cases.
1) An Adult or Child is accompanied by more than two toddlers.
(A fare is free up to two toddlers, and a Child fare is applied to the third and any additional toddlers.)
2) A toddler requires a reserved seat.
3) A toddler boards a train alone.

What happens if I miss my reserved train?

It depends on the type of ticket you purchased.
“Regular ticket” : You can take the non-reserved seat of other trains of the day.
“KYUSHU NET KIPPU” : You can take the non-reserved seat of other trains of the day.
“KYUSHU NET HAYATOKU 3” : You cannot take a later train in a non-reserved seats.
Please purchase a separate express ticket. etc. -

My flight was canceled, so I’m going to return my reserved ticket for a refund. Is there a handling charge for refunds?

If you are getting a refund due to the cancellation or delay of non-JR transportation, you must pay the predetermined refund handling charge.
