This pass is ideal for travelling throughout Kyushu as there are pass types available that offer access to Northern Kyushu, Southern Kyushu, or Kyushu in its entirety. This pass also gives users the ability to freely select seats on local trains, limited express trains, and Shinkansen (bullet trains).

Notice

When you get on the train, be sure to show your passport to prove that you are an international visitor. The passport must have visa stamp or seal for a temporary visitor.

Notes Regarding Usage

How to Use

JR Kyushu Rail Pass can be passed through the automatic ticket gate.

Please be careful not to leave your ticket in the ticket gate machine.

【Attention!】

Reserved seat ticket cannot be used to pass through automatic ticket gate.

Validity Period

Regarding the validity period of JR Kyushu Rail Pass:
The pass must be used on consecutive days. For example: 3 consecutive days validity such as Jan.1, 2, and 3.
You may not use non-consecutive days (interval in-between).

Discounts for Children

Pass price for children (age between 6 and 11) is half of the adult price.

[How to determine child's age]

*If you purchase a voucher for a JR Kyushu Rail Pass by overseas travel agency: the age of the child is as of the date of purchase.

*If you purchase your JR Kyushu Rail Pass here in Kyushu, Japan OR purchase via the JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking service: the age of the child will be as of the date when the pass is first effective.

Applicable Trains

  • Reserved and non-reserved seats for all Shinkansen (MIZUHO, SAKURA, TSUBAME and KAMOME) within the designated covered area.

    *JR Kyushu Rail Passes do not apply to Shinkansen (bullet train) rides between Hakata and Kokura since this portion is a part of the Sanyo Shinkansen operated by JR-WEST.

  • Reserved and non-reserved seats for all Limited Express trains within the designated covered area.
  • Local trains within the designated covered area.

    *Passengers are able to upgrade to Green Car (first-class car)tickets but will be subject to additional charges.

    *The Green Car is a first-class car with wider seats and other upgrades/amenities.

Terms of Conditions

Eligibility for Use

Non-Japanese citizens who are visiting Japan for the purpose of sightseeing and traveling on a temporary visitor visa.

  1. You must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan.
  2. You must reside outside Japan and are visiting Japan on a temporary visitor visa(*).

Those who satisfy conditions 1 and 2 above are eligible.

*When entering Japan, please receive proof of "temporary visitor" with a stamp or seal on your passport. If you are using an automated gate when entering Japan, please ask the airport staff and receive a certificate from your passport with a stamp or seal.

Conditions of Use

  1. This pass can be used only by the rail pass purchaser.
  2. When you use the pass, please always carry your passport with you.
  3. The pass cannot be used for JR Kyushu buses,B&S Miyazaki buses,the Cruise Train Seven Stars in Kyushu, the ARU RESSHA(Sweet Train) and KANPACHI/ICHIROKU.
  4. The pass cannot be used for the Sanyo Shinkansen (between Hakata and Kokura).
  5. Use of Green Car (first-class car) is subject to an additional fee. Passes do not authorize holder access to the private room/compartment of any Green Car.
  6. The pass is only valid within the JR Kyushu service area even though there may be some lines in Kyushu operated by other companies.
  7. Travel on trains outside of the designated coverage area of your pass is subject to an additional fee/charge.
  8. Unavailability of seating due to full occupancy shall not be subject to refunds.

The "JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking" provides a charged seat reservation service for persons who have purchased a JR Kyushu Rail Pass in advance from the site or from a designated travel agency.

*There is a limited number of seats available for sale on each train. Even if there are seats available on your desired train, you may not be able to purchase them.

*The seats that can be reserved without additional charges are limited to “reserved seats.” If you use a Green Car seat, you will need to pay extra.
*If you don’t have a reserved seat, you can only use “non-reserved seats.”
*When transferring between the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen "KAMOME" and Limited express trains, your reservation for the latter reserved seat is a continuation of the former one, counted together as one.

    To purchase a ticket, please provide the following information to the staff:

    When reserving seats, it may be more convenient to fill out the seat reservation application form in advance.

Regarding Refunds

Refund of JR Kyushu Rail Pass

  1. For customers who made their purchase at “JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking”

    Please request your refund at “JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking” by 23:00 on the first day using the pass. Make sure the person requesting the refund is the person who made the original purchase. 10% of the sale price (Japanese yen) will be charged as a handling charge, and the remaining amount will be refunded.

  2. For customers who have a Voucher for a JR Kyushu Rail Pass purchased at travel agencies overseas

    Please direct inquiries concerning refunds to the agency where you made your purchase. JR Kyushu will not carry out these refunds.

  3. For customers who have received the JR Kyushu Rail Pass at the JR Kyushu ticketing office.
    • Until the Day Before the First Day of the Valid Period

      Please offer refunding at the issue JR Kyushu ticketing office by one day before the starting of valid date of the pass. 10% of sale price (Japanese yen) will be charged as a handling charge, and the remaining amount will be refunded.

    • After the First Day of Valid Period

      On or after the day the pass becomes valid, no refund will apply for any reason including suspension of the train, etc.

Refund for reserved seat tickets(KRP Option Ticket)reserved via JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking

  1. For customers who have not yet received their reserved seat tickets

    Please make a refund before the designated train's departure time using the "JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking" system. Please note that a handling fee of 340 yen will be deducted from your refund.
    If the reason of your refund is due to a cancelled train, please DO NOT make your refund using the "JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking" system. Please directly request a refund from "Inquiry" on the bottom of the "JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking" page.

  2. For customers who have already recieved their reserved seat tickets

    Before departing on the designated train, customers can apply for a refund at the “JR Kyushu ticketing office (Midori-no-Madoguchi)”, and a refund will be provided after paying the handling charge. We can not make refunds after the train departs. If you cannot board the train due to the train being unable to operate etc., please ask the staff of the station.
