    What are the purchase conditions for a JR Kyushu Rail Pass?

    A JR Kyushu Rail Pass can be purchased by any non-Japanese citizen visiting Japan for the purpose of sightseeing and traveling on a short-stay visa.

    How far in advance can I book a JR Kyushu Rail Pass?

    You may book a Rail Pass as early as 10 AM (JST), 1 month in advance of the boarding date.
    For example, if your train boarding date is April 1, you can book and purchase tickets as early as March 1 at 10 AM.
    *If you purchase your Rail Pass at a travel agency, the time of purchase will depend on the tour company or travel agency. Please confirm this information by inquiring with or contacting a service representative at each company.

    What is the age range for a child’s fare?

    The child’s fare applies to children between the ages of 6 and 11 years old.

    ■If you purchased a voucher for a JR Kyushu Rail Pass at a travel agency outside of Japan: the age of the child on the day the voucher was purchased applies.

    ■If you purchased a voucher for a JR Kyushu Rail Pass (E-ticket voucher) through JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking, or if you purchased a JR Kyushu Rail Pass at a station ticket office following your arrival in Japan: the age of the child on the day the JR Kyushu Rail Pass is first used applies.

    Also, children age 5 and younger can ride free of charge.
    However, if a child aged 5 years or younger will be using a reserved seat, please purchase a ticket (or a child’s JR Kyushu Rail Pass) for the required section.

    Are there any additional charges when reserving a seat on limited express trains such as Yufuin no Mori, Aso Boy!, and SL Hitoyoshi?

    No additional charges apply to reserve a seat so long as the train operates within the valid area of your JR Kyushu Rail Pass.
    However, please note that the conditions of use for seats that can be reserved for free vary depending on the type of pass (area) being used.

    All Kyushu:Unlimited
    Northern Kyushu:Up to 6 times
    Southern Kyushu:Up to 6 times

    *Reserved seats booked in advance through JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking are not included in the above-mentioned booking limit.
    *When transferring between the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen "KAMOME" and Limited express trains, your reservation for the latter reserved seat is a continuation of the former one, counted together as one.
    *For the “36+3,” you need a Green Limited Express ticket in addition to the JR Kyushu Rail Pass. Please purchase it before boarding.

    What if I want to book reserved seats more than 6 times?

    If you are using the Northern Kyushu Area Pass or the Southern Kyushu Area Pass and want to reserve seats 7 or more times, you can do so by purchasing a “limited express ticket” separately and without a discount.

    I would like to use a JR Kyushu Rail Pass for travel while visiting Japan. Can I make seat reservations prior to my arrival?

    You can book a reserved seat ahead of time online with the “JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking” service.

    There are some conditions of use for the pre-booking service for reserved seats.
    ・This service is available to those who purchased their JR Kyushu Rail Pass through “JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking” or those who purchased their JR Kyushu Rail Pass at certain travel agencies.
    ・There is a charge for reserved seat tickets that are booked through Online Booking.
    ・A credit card is required.
    ・There are some trains that cannot be booked.
    ・(For customers who purchased a JR Kyushu Rail Pass at a travel agency) Please ask the travel agency that purchased your pass if it is possible to use the pre-booking service for reserved seats.

    *If JR Kyushu Online Booking is not available, you can exchange a voucher for or purchase a JR Kyushu Rail Pass and then book a reserved seat at a designated JR Kyushu station ticket office or Reserved Seat Ticketing Machine after you arrive in Kyushu.

    Can one person purchase more than one JR Kyushu Rail Pass?

    You can purchase more than one pass as long as the valid periods of the multiple passes you purchase do not overlap. However, you will be able to purchase both of Northern Kyushu Area Pass and Southern Kyushu Area Pass when the valid date of two is overlapped only one day. Please be aware that the purchasing and exchanging stations of each pass are different.
    For example) You can purchase both of a Northern Kyushu Area Pass valid from Jan. 1 to 3 and a Southern Kyushu Area Pass valid from Jan.3 to 5.

    Can a JR Kyushu Rail Pass be purchased/exchanged on behalf of another?

    JR Kyushu Rail Passes cannot be purchased/exchanged on behalf of other persons. The person whose name will be on the pass is required to purchase/exchange her/his pass in person.

    When I make a reservation for more than one person, is it OK that only the purchaser come to pick up the tickets?

    All users need to come to the ticket office.

    How long do I have to pick up my ticket?

    You can pick up your ticket on the day you will board your train, or on the day you start using your Rail Pass.
    Also, because the ticket office is expected to be crowded, please come with ample time to accommodate for this before your departure time. Furthermore, you can only pick up your ticket at a designated JR Kyushu ticket office.
