The adjoining room was on the west side and can be accessed from the toilet of the guest room. This room was used by the servants of elite guests. A reporter gave an account of the adjoining room in an article that appeared in the Moji Shinpo newspaper dated March 13, 1914.
“The room was truly clean. It felt like it was a shame to walk on the floor in my wet shoes after having walked on a road made muddy by the rain.”
Also, a picture of the Mikado Shokudo supplied by a resident in Kita-kyushu showed the pattern of the wallpaper. This was used to replicate the former interior.
