Mojiko Station guide

② Clock
The large clock, which is a symbol of Mojiko Station, is not shown in pictures of the station when it was first built. It is unclear exactly when the clock was added. After researching old newspaper articles from 1912 to 1926, an article was found in the January 20, 1918 edition of the Fukuoka Nichinichi Shimbun which talked about the first installation of an electric-power clock in Kyushu and only the fifth such clock in Japan.
It was also discovered from old pictures that the face of the clock had been replaced twice prior to the recent restoration work. During the recent restoration, the face of clock was restored to replicate the original face of the clock when it was first installed in 1918. Since its installation a 100 years ago, the clock has been keeping time as the symbol of Mojiko Station.
